About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced workshop manager who holds a trade qualified Certificate 3 in Heavy Diesel Mechanics. This permanent full-time position will be based out of our Sunshine West, VIC depot.

The purpose of this role is to oversee the full operations of the workshop including profit and loss performance, team leadership, infrastructure and all Select assets. It essentially ensures the delivery of high-quality service to customers in the region.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Use workforce planning and forecasting tools to identify and secure a skilled labour pool to meet current and future project needs.
  • Leading daily workshop pre-start meetings.
  • Ensure recruitment processes are followed, including interviews, reference checks, qualifications, SWMS, EBA compliance, medicals, and drug & alcohol testing.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing team that aligns with company values and culture.
  • Maintain an up-to-date Skills Matrix and collaborate with the HC team to support career development and succession planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the fleet and workshop infrastructure, recommending upgrades and identifying opportunities to expand services and secure new work.
  • Provide timely, accurate reports to the management team with clear, informed recommendations.

About you

  • Trade-qualified with a Certificate III in Heavy Diesel Mechanics.
  • Over 10 years of hands-on experience in the mechanical trade, with an understanding of workshop operations and asset maintenance.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership role managing workshop performance, resources, and service delivery.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing teams of trade-qualified professionals in high-demand environments.
  • Proven track record in managing high-performing workshops, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
