Our Internship Programme is a 60-day paid work placement programme for university students in their penultimate year of study. Interns will work in one project or business unit for the duration of their placement to help you develop the essential skills, knowledge and networks to make a successful transition into the business after graduation. Following successful completion of the Internship Programme, interns will receive priority consideration for the Graduate Development Programme.

Our two-year Graduate Development Programme commences in January each year. The programme is designed for recent university graduates and aims to stretch and challenge while focusing on developing the essential foundations for a successful career. Graduate rotations allow work across a variety of exciting projects, placements and positions.
We hire most of our Graduates from our Internship Programme. Occasionally, Graduate Programme opportunities may arise, which will be listed on our website.

Defence and Industry Civil Engineer Work Experience Program (CEWEP)
The Defence and Industry Civil Engineer Work Experience Program (CEWEP) commenced in 2019 and is critical to delivering experiential training development to grow the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) highly specialised and future Civil Engineering workforce as future construction project managers across multiple domains.
We are pleased that Laing O Rourke has been entrusted as a member of the CEWEP community. For more than 40 years, Laing O’Rourke has delivered infrastructure for the Department of Defence in Australia, supporting critical missions to protect security and prosperity.
The prioritisation of CEWEP through Military Personnel Organisation Commander Australian Defence College (COMADC) is significant for the Australian Defence Force in transforming from a balanced to an integrated, focused force and the expertise and enthusiasm shown by industry has supported the professionalisation of this critical workforce.

What can I expect from the Internship?
We work across some of Australia’s biggest and most complex infrastructure projects in both metropolitan and regional areas. Our interns will work on one project or business unit for the duration of their 60-day paid placement. The Internship combines practical on-the-job experience with a tailored weekly development programme to equip you will the fundamental skills and experience needed to build the foundations of a fulfilling career. The weekly training sessions cover a broad range of skills, providing exposure across many different areas of the business. Our interns will be considered for a priority placement in the Graduate Development Programme upon completion of their university degree.
What support is available during the programme?
We are here to support you every step of the way. You will have the support of your line manager and a buddy who you can talk to about your career aspirations and anything else at Laing O’Rourke. Additionally, there will also be opportunities to connect as a cohort and one-on-one coaching with our Learning & Development team.
The programme will commence on Monday 18 November 2024 - Friday 21 February 2025.
The 2024 Interns will be given priority consideration to join the 2026 Graduate Programme.
Our primary intake commences in January each year. We also we assess business need and our current intern's study completion dates, to determine if we can accommodate a smaller mid year intake which commences in July.
Our two year, rotational Graduate Development Programme is designed to stretch and challenge, while focusing on developing the essential foundations for a successful career.
It is a requirement of our programme that you are adaptable, mobile and willing to work in various locations across Australia (including metropolitan, regional and remote areas).
