About the Role

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for an experienced Health and Safety Manager based in Sydney to work across our major infrastructure projects in NSW.

A major focus of this role will be to support the bringing to life of Laing O’Rourke’s industry leading Rethinking Safety Programmes. Our commitment is to both physical and psychological safety through inclusion and wellbeing supported by three key pillars that work together across project lifecycles to achieve this, Engineered Safety, Delivery Excellence & Human Performance.

Key Responsibilities

Actively support and champion our Rethinking Safety Through Inclusion and Wellbeing program via three core focus areas:

  • Engineering out risk and engineering in health
  • Ensuring everyone’s voice is heard and contribution valued
  • Demonstrating care for both physical and mental wellbeing

Day to Day:

  • You will take the lead responsibility for all Health & Safety aspects of the project and ensure all works are completed in accordance with required contract conditions, standards/regulations and company procedures. 
  • Monitor and proactively engage the Project Leaders and direct HSE Reports to effectively manage the close out of Non-Conformance Reports arising from audits, and corrective action arising from incident investigations.
  • Positively influence the health and safety culture and performance of the project.
  • Lead and conduct project audits in accordance with Project Audit Schedule, and undertake periodic reviews

About You

  • You will have a relevant Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety combined with at least 10 years' extensive experience on large scale construction projects, ideally in Australia. 
  • Experience in coaching to develop safety peers and project personnel in Health, Safety and Environment.
  • Leadership experience
  • You will have demonstrated audit experience
