About the opportunity

The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.

Laing O’Rourke is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Symal, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

 

About the role

We are currently seeking a full-time ongoing position for a Senior Safety Advisor – Systems and Assurance to join us on the Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Alliance.

 

 Key responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the EBTA Health and Safety Management System ensuring alignment and compliance with overarching corporate framework and related certification requirements.
  • Ensure the EBTA Health and Safety Management Plan and its related sub-plans are maintained in accordance with contractual and system obligations.
  • Oversee the EBTA H&S audit program encompassing both internal and external audits, ensuring readiness across the Alliance’s three delivery packages by supporting continuous improvement, facilitating stakeholder engagement and driving the implementation of corrective actions to achieve high performance outcomes and compliance standards.
  • Monitor and communicate safety performance related data, including trend analysis, and assist in the identification, development and implementation of strategies to continually improve the Alliance’s safety performance.
  • Work closely with the EBTA Health and Safety Team and other Alliance functions to develop and implement initiatives that creates a safer and more efficient working environment.  

 

 About you

  • Relevant Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Governance or Risk related areas
  • Experience on Infrastructure, Construction or Rail projects would be highly regarded but not essential 
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety System frameworks and their implementation.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting data and information.
  • Understanding of audit processes and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at various levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
