About the opportunity

The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.
Laing O’Rourke is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Symal, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Waste and Import Coordinator to join us on the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance.
This is your opportunity to support with the management of all internal and external waste and import management streams across the project, including delivery of import material, disposal of waste and spoil haulage.

Key responsibilities

• Managing the projects spoil and slurry Waste Tracking register to align with project EPA Designations and Environmental Reports.
• Reviews onsite spoil classifications to optimise tipping operations
• Ensure all disposal locations, EPL licenses and Tip approval forms and documentation with sub-contractors and environmental department.
• Ensure correct allocation of supervision/engineer to approve VS dockets
• Assist Spoil lead with daily haulage requirements across the project
• Ensure subcontractors are supplying and maintaining tip dockets and weighbridge reports via Virtual Superintendent daily from sub-contractors.
• Coordination with excavation teams and environmental consultants to facilitate the waste classification process
• Communicate with and manage spoil contractors, reporting any short supply or non-conformances to Spoil lead
• Site observation and documentation of waste generation on-site in order to gather evidence and data to facilitate all of the above
• Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation
• Assist with auditing spoil operations to ensure compliance with Heavy Vehicle National Law

About you

• Solid experience in waste removal and logistics on large-scale construction projects.
• Existing knowledge of construction techniques, methodologies, and processes
• Attention to detail and ability to thrive in a small team
