About the opportunity

The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.

Laing O’Rourke is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Symal, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Temporary Works Design Manager to join us on the Eastern Freeway BTA project. We have a strong pipeline with many opportunities for career progression right here in Victoria.

Key responsibilities 

    • Review and approve TW Design Briefs, to ensure the TW will meet the minimum requirements for quality, loading conditions, equipment reuse, efficiency, and economy.
    • Review, negotiate and approve designer cost estimates, variations claims and invoices.
    • Act as an interface between the permanent works designers and temporary works designers
    • Manage the TW design budget and cost forecasts.

 About you

  • Relevant engineering degree combined with experience in managing design on major projects
  • Good communication skills are essential, with an understanding of the build and design process to enable you to build relationships and add value
  • An understanding of cost control and experience working in both design and the build stage of major projects are advantageous for the position
