About the role

We are currently seeking Senior Health and Safety Advisor to join the South Eastern Program Alliance team in a permanent role. Reporting into the Project Leader and functionally to the Alliance Health and Safety Manager. The project will be based in West Melbourne. 

You will be key in driving both industry best practice and legislative compliance requirements as the health and safety lead for our exciting new project in the West of Melbourne.  You will be instrumental in the implementation of the HSE Management Plan in accordance with the Alliance requirements and be a key project leader.

Laing O’Rourke, as part of the South East Program Alliance (SEPA), is working with LXRP, Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) and Jacobs to develop and deliver value-for-money engineering solutions for multiple level crossing removals.

The Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) is a delivery entity created by the Victorian Government to remove 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Victoria by 2025. It is one of the largest rail infrastructure projects in Victoria’s history.

 

Key responsibilities

  • You will support your team onsite to deliver best practice for the delivery team and subcontractors.
  • Coach, mentor and support project personnel to continually improve the culture and performance of the project team and Laing O’Rourke’s Rethinking Safety Through Inclusion and Wellbeing philosophy.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Laing O’Rourke HSE Management System and Project HSE Management Plans in accordance with company requirements.
  • Complete, facilitate and mentor accident investigations up to and including Potential Class 1
  • Assist in the coordination and undertaking of HSE assurance activities including audits and support the project in developing and closing out any actions arising.
  • Assist with the preparation of SWMS and Construction Method Statements to encompass the relevant construction processes.
  • Contribute to project planning and procurement to ensuring plans and procedures include HSE standards and client requirements.
  • Support and assist with subcontractor onboarding and setting a high standard of health and safety across the project.
  • Proactively deal with HSE concerns, by engaging with the people performing the task or activity.

 

About you

  • Cert IV in OHS or relevant Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety
  • More than 5 years construction site-based experience.  Experience on building and rail projects, ideally in Australia.
  • Demonstrated audit experience along with experience in coaching to develop safety peers and project personnel in Health & Safety.
  • ICAM, Return to Work Coordinator trained
  • RIW preferred
  • People management experience, leading and mentoring team members.
  • Hands on and demonstrated experience in assisting supervision and management with HSE issue / action close out within the workplace.
