About the opportunity

The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.

Laing O’Rourke is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Symal, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

 

About the role

We are currently seeking an ITS Engineer - SE/PE Level to join us on the Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Alliance. We have a strong pipeline with many opportunities for career progression right here in Victoria.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Apply engineering concepts, practices, and theory to design technical ITS solutions including ITS architecture, technical standards and analytics that meet the Projects Needs.
  • Understand project scope and develop solutions within defined technical and budget constraints.
  • Manage the short- and long-term construction planning for works and prepare accurate reporting and mitigation measures where required.
  • Participate in market engagement, procurement, Subcontract and Supplier engagement and management throughout delivery
  • Complete daily site diaries for areas of work and progress photographs

 

About you

  • A degree qualification in Civil Engineering with Industry experience in roads/tunnels, rail, metro or similar
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the fields of maintenance, design, construction, testing & commissioning of Intelligent Transport Systems.
  • 'Hands-on' experience with ITS systems (building, configuring, troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading)
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and ITS systems and assets, including their design and functionality.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
