About the role

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Advisor (Night Shift) to provide practical, hands-on Health & Safety support and collaboratively work with our project team at all levels of the business ensuring best practice standards are being met and exceeded. 

Key responsibilities

  • Competently uses the Laing O’Rourke systems and is familiar with the content of the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Able to coordinate and organise basic courses.
  • Collect, verify, collate and present statistics to identify trends in performance.
  • Develop and deliver Prestart, toolbox talks and HS training
  • Delivers and supports training and other HSE initiatives in order to facilitate consistent standards and share best practice.
  • Provides basic HSE Management System (SMS) and contractual requirements coaching
  • Able to complete the Laing O’Rourke Incident Investigation Form for all other incident investigations as per the SR Event Management and Reporting.
  • Identifies and implements HSE improvement initiatives at a project level.
  • Ensures robust and thorough reports are into IMPACT to enable accurate statistical reporting.
  • Coordinate and carry out basic Health and Safety inspections
  • Assists with Risk Management tool development (Prestart briefing /JHA, SWMS, PRA)
  • Ensuring all appropriate actions are taken to implement the HSEMS, legislative and client contractual requirements
  • Monitoring and conducting regular HSE governance  checks within the project sites including:
  • Collective Insights
  • Positive Investigations
  • FSR’s
  • SER’s
  • reporting breaches
  • recommending remedial actions
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress of appropriate corrective actions
  • Supporting the implementation of corrective and preventive strategies
  • Keeping abreast of HSE legislation, best practice, tools and tactics
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with field personnel

About you

  • Certificate IV OHS and or working towards Graduate Certificate, Diploma OHS, Certificate in Risk management.
  • Understands all the basic high risk activities involved in construction
  • Understands basic environmental  risk management
  • Able to read, understand and interpret the Health and Safety management system
  • Able to plan and carry out safety inspections
  • Able to coordinate and deliver Health and safety training
  • Able to assist in the identification of significant factors affecting the project design and help with the design risk assessment.
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook

Experience

  • Working in high risk construction industry
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching frontline delivery teams and management with HS issue and resolution
  • Proactive management of site based hazards and risks.
  • Able to complete Level 3 / 5 WHY incident investigations
