About the opportunity

The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.

Laing O’Rourke is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Symal, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Senior Sustainability Manager to join us on the Eastern Freeway Bourke to Tram Alliance. We have a strong pipeline with many opportunities for career progression right here in Victoria.

  Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of sustainability professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support as needed. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture focused on achieving project sustainability goals

• Ensure the sustainability accreditation targets and rating submissions (with the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) or other sustainability accreditation framework) are achieved.  

• Provide technical input into engineering and technological approaches to the design and delivery of sustainable infrastructure assets.
•  Manage the modelling modelling of integrated building designs in the area of climate change, energy, water balance and material lifecycle impacts.  

About you

• Extensive experience as a Sustainability Manager working across Major Infrastructure , Rail or Construction projects
• Relevant tertiary qualification in built environment, science, engineering, sustainability
•  Infrastructure, Rail or Building projects as an ISAP and GSAP accredited professional
• Demonstrable track record of setting project sustainability targets and developing plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery
• Ideally - experience in completing ISC ratings
