About the opportunity

The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.

Laing O’Rourke is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Symal, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

About the role

We are currently seeking an Environmental Advisor to join us on the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Senior Environmental Advisor/Environmental Leader to ensure that the project correctly implements the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and complies with legislative and contractual environmental obligations
• Assisting with the preparation of reports and providing this feedback at construction meetings
• Reporting of events, actions and tracking metrics in Impact and other project tools
• Assisting with reporting on the progress of environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives
• Monitoring the progress of environmental and sustainability targets and ensure that any required actions are initiated
• Undertaking site inspections, issue corrective actions and track closure

About you

• A tertiary qualification in Environment related studies (BEnvSc, BEnvMan, BSc, BEnvEng or equivalent degree)
• Experience dealing with Environmental and industry based governing bodies
• Show a level of commercial awareness and an understanding of business
• Demonstrates leadership skills and ensure behaviours are in accordance with the Laing O’Rourke’s and the project’s values
• Required to keep abreast of environmental legislation, compliance and reporting requirements
