About the opportunity

The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway. These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.

Laing O’Rourke is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Symal, Arcadis and WSP. Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria’s toughest traffic noise standards. The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.

 

About the role

We are currently seeking a Commercial Manager to join us on the Eastern Freeway- Burke to Tram Alliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing and managing the procurement plan to support the project schedule, whilst selecting and preparing the standard forms of supply chain agreements for use on the project.
  • Manage contractual disputes and risk mitigation.
  • Liaising with the client over commercial matters relating to the project.
  • Develop and mentor your commercial site team to ensure they deliver the commercial requirements of the project.
  • Have oversight of team applications for payments with the client.
  • Ensure accurate and timely, weekly and monthly reporting and forecasting of project costs.
  • Maintain registers and productivity on the project, whilst at all times adhering to  safety policies & procedures.

 

About you

  • As the preferred candidate for this role, you will be tertiary qualified in Commercial Law, Quantity Surveying or Engineering and possess
  • Recent experience in a Commercial Manager position having worked on major public infrastructure projects in Australia for Tier 1 construction contractors.
  • Experience working with Managing Contractor type contracts is preferred.
  • You will have the results driven, collaborative leadership approach with an ability to demonstrate a high level of technical and negotiation skills.
  • You will also possess strong communication skills with an ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders
