About the role

We are currently seeking a Senior Hire Controller to join Select Plant Australia in Melbourne, Vic. Location for the role is flexible as we have project offices at multiple locations around Melbourne. This permanent role offers great career prospects with one of the largest specialist plant hire businesses in Australia.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing the local Hire Controllers by providing team leadership and support to ensure the workload is evenly distributed on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ensuring training opportunities for new and existing staff are actioned to maintain compliance with all business processes around the hire of plant.
  • Liaise with line management and other departments with the Select & LORA group.
  • Advise and monitor staff with guidance on their job responsibilities.
  • Organise, plan and complete own administrative workload to provide effective services for the local team, as well as in alignment with the wider business needs.
  •  Review asset availability listing for x-hire swap out opportunities.
  • Assess, constantly, the need for purchasing equipment through feedback from customers’ requirements and working with the local depots to ensure the smooth mobilisation of plant to project sites.
  • Review all hires to ensure that the purchasing procedures are strictly adhered to. For example, the use of preferred suppliers and the quality and efficiency of administration.
  • Review daily reports (internal and customer reports) for due items to be actioned.
  • Deal with all team queries on a timely basis, keeping all parties involved up to date.

About you

  • Previous experience working in the Plant and Equipment Hire industry desirable or experience working as an Administration Manager
  • Previous experience managing a team
  • Strong administration skills 
  • High attention to detail with accurate and timely data processing skills
  • Understands the logistical anomalies in the transport of plant
  • Demonstrates an excellent level of customer service, team leadership experience and capacity to demonstrate best-practice across a variety of systems and processes
  • Understanding of accounts payable and receivable processes
  • Although you will be based at the Select depot, you may be required to work from a Laing O'Rourke project site office as well as the corporate office from time to time.
