About Akordi

Akordi is transforming how the world's most complex infrastructure projects make critical decisions. A Laing O'Rourke subsidiary, we combine deep construction expertise with cutting-edge AI to deliver decision intelligence across the full project lifecycle — from early planning through live operations.

Our SaaS platform brings together risk management, schedule optimisation, and advanced analytics to help project teams execute with greater certainty. We work at the intersection of optimisation engineering and strategic consulting, solving multi-dimensional challenges that traditional tools simply can't handle.

With a growing presence across Australia and the UK, we're at an exciting point in our journey — scaling our platform, our people, and our impact across some of the world's most demanding programmes.

About the role

We are seeking an AI/ML Software Engineer to join our R&D team and contribute to the design, development, and deployment of machine learning solutions that power Akordi's decision intelligence platform. This is a hands-on engineering role for a practitioner who is strong in Python and machine learning fundamentals, has real experience deploying models into production, and brings genuine curiosity about applying AI to complex, data-rich problems.

You will work across the full ML development lifecycle — from exploratory data analysis and feature engineering through to model deployment, API integration, pipeline optimisation, and production monitoring. You will collaborate closely with product and engineering colleagues to translate business requirements into working ML systems with measurable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and develop machine learning models for prediction, classification, optimisation, and anomaly detection using structured and unstructured datasets
  • Build, optimise, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to support model training, validation, and production inference at scale
  • Deploy ML models into production environments, integrating outputs with backend services and user-facing applications via REST APIs
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and advanced feature engineering to extract actionable signals and improve model performance
  • Develop automated data processing workflows that improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention across the ML lifecycle

About you

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Networks, or a closely related technical discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of commercial experience in applied ML/AI engineering, data science, or machine learning engineering roles
  • Demonstrated experience developing and deploying machine learning models into production environments
  • Proficiency in Python and key ML frameworks including TensorFlow and scikit-learn
  • Experience integrating ML model outputs into production systems via REST APIs and backend services
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS (EC2, S3)

Highly regarded

  • Academic research background in network optimisation, resource allocation, or operations research — directly relevant to Akordi's infrastructure decision intelligence domain
  • Experience developing decision-support or analytics systems for energy, telecommunications, or industrial clients
  • Exposure to object detection, time series forecasting, or real-time data visualisation systems
  • Published academic or applied research in machine learning or related fields
  • Familiarity with containerised deployment environments (Docker)
  • Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tooling for stakeholder reporting
