About The Position

Select Plant Australia is currently recruiting for an experienced Trade Assistant. This role will be located at the Select Plant Australia – Malaga Depot on a full-time basis.

As a Trades Assistant, you will be required to provide support to all trades and management as and when directed, including assisting with on and off hiring of plant and equipment, coordinating yard movements, maintaining yard housekeeping, operating machinery, undertaking general plant and equipment cleaning and detailing duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support skilled tradespersons (mechanical fitter, auto electrician) in daily tasks.
  • Follow instructions and assist in the setup, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain and organize tools and equipment.
  • On and off hiring of plant and equipment
  • General workshop housekeeping - clean and prepare work areas, dispose of waste materials, and maintain a tidy workspace.
  • Assist in the documentation of work processes and findings.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of materials and machinery.
  • Provide support to the wider stores and workshop teams as required.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure a safe working environment.

About You

Our ideal candidate will be a motivated and reliable individual with an aptitude for mechanics, and/or a mechanical background. We are looking for a self-starter, who takes pride and ownership in their work, safety-orientated, and have excellent communication skills.

Key Qualities:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and tools.
  • Good understanding/working knowledge of technology (iPads, tablets, computers etc).
  • Precision in following instructions and completing tasks.
  • Resourcefulness in finding solutions to assist tradespeople.
  • Awareness of details to ensure high-quality workmanship and safety.
  • Cooperative attitude and willingness to assist others.
  • Awareness of safety protocols and proactive about maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Receptiveness to feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Enthusiasm to learn, upskill and progress to add value to the Select Operations support team.

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for the role, you'll need to meet the minimum requirements below:

  • Unrestricted Australian Working Rights
  • Australian driver's licence – C Class (minimum).
  • Australian Construction Induction Card (Blue/White Card).
  • Current Forklift Licence
  • Mechanical aptitude or background.

Advantageous but not essential:

  • HR Driver's Licence
  • EWP ticket
  • Forklift Verification of Competency (less than 2 years old)
  • Load Restraint Awareness Training
  • Chain of Responsibility awareness
  • Certificate: Loading and Unloading of Plant and Equipment
