Laing O’Rourke, with joint venture partner Amentum Australia, will play a central role in supporting Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) to develop and deliver the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) project at Osborne, South Australia. We will provide program and construction management services of nuclear related civil infrastructure, site‑wide nuclear licensee development expertise, and nuclear safety leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination and governance of all temporary works activities across the project lifecycle, from concept development through to construction, commissioning and removal.
  • Ensure temporary works are designed, reviewed, approved and implemented in accordance with project requirements, engineering standards, legislative obligations and company procedures.
  • Manage the temporary works design process, ensuring technical compliance, constructability, safety and delivery requirements are achieved.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of temporary works risk management, ensuring risks are identified, assessed and mitigated throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Act as the primary interface between permanent works designers, temporary works designers, construction teams and key stakeholders to ensure effective integration of design and delivery outcomes.
  • Coordinate and facilitate temporary works design reviews, constructability reviews and stakeholder engagements, ensuring actions are tracked through to closure.
  • Support project delivery teams by providing technical leadership and guidance on temporary works methodologies, staging strategies and construction solutions.
  • Review and manage temporary works design scopes, consultant proposals, cost estimates, variation claims and invoices to ensure value for money and commercial alignment.
  • Monitor temporary works performance, programme constraints and design deliverables to ensure project milestones and construction requirements are met.

 

 

 

About You

  • Significant experience in temporary works, construction engineering, design management or engineering leadership roles on major infrastructure, defence, transport, resources or complex building projects.
  • Degree qualification in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Demonstrated experience managing temporary works design and delivery across large multidisciplinary construction programmes.
  • Strong understanding of temporary works governance, engineering assurance, risk management and constructability principles.
  • Experience coordinating multiple design consultants, contractors and stakeholder groups within complex project environments.
  • Proven ability to manage technical interfaces between design and construction teams and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of temporary works standards, regulations and industry best practice.
  • Experience reviewing engineering deliverables, technical documentation, design changes and construction methodologies.
  • Chartered status or progress towards professional accreditation will be highly regarded.
  • Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level.
