About the role

At Laing O’Rourke, you won’t just build projects, you’ll help shape the future. As a $6 billion privately owned global engineering and manufacturing-led construction leader, we deliver some of the nation’s most complex infrastructure, from transport networks to defence and utilities.

At Laing O’Rourke, our future pipeline requires us to think beyond today’s vacancies and plan earlier for the skills and capability our projects will need tomorrow.

We are looking for a Strategic Workforce Planning Lead to strengthen how we forecast, plan and respond to future workforce demand across our Australian business.

Working closely with senior leaders, you will connect our project pipeline and business strategy with workforce planning, using data and insights to identify future capability needs, risks and opportunities.

Benefits

At the heart of Laing O’Rourke is our commitment to helping our people do their best work and grow meaningful, fulfilling careers. Through exceptional development opportunities, wellbeing support and employee benefits, we empower our teams to succeed.

We celebrate diversity and welcome applications from First Nations Peoples and candidates from culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Our industry-leading benefits include:

  • In-house training programs and on-the-job skill development.
  • Six months paid parental leave at full pay for all employees.
  • Additional purchased leave options and volunteering leave.
  • Exclusive discounts and savings across hundreds of retailers across Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate project pipeline and growth plans into forward workforce demand, capacity and capability forecasts.
  • Partner with senior leaders to understand future project requirements, mobilisation timelines and critical capability needs.
  • Develop and implement workforce plans, turning forecasting and scenario modelling into clear actions across resourcing, mobility, talent and capability.
  • Analyse workforce demand, supply, utilisation and availability to identify emerging workforce risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake scenario planning across project wins, losses, mobilisation, demobilisation and growth.
  • Identify critical and hard-to-source capability requirements early to support proactive workforce planning.
  • Develop workforce reporting and insights to support business and resourcing decisions.

About You

You will ideally bring:

  • Experience in strategic workforce planning within a large or complex organisation.
  • Strong workforce forecasting, capacity planning and scenario-modelling capability.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn workforce data into clear, practical insights.
  • Confidence partnering with and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • An understanding of how workforce planning connects with recruitment, talent, mobility and capability development.
  • Strong Excel and reporting capability, with Power BI or similar experience advantageous.

Experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, defence, resources, energy or another complex project-led environment would be advantageous but is not essential.

We value flexible ways of working and welcome applications from people interested in full-time, part-time or job-share opportunities.
